History of the WRMC
The conference is sponsored by the Wilderness Risk Managers Committee, a national consortium of outdoor schools, guide services, organizations and land managers, which are working towards better clarification, understanding and management of risks in the wilderness.
In 1994, the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) coordinated the first wilderness risk management conference, held at NOLS Pacific Northwest in Conway, Washington. Since that time, NOLS has been joined by other organizations in co-hosting the conference. Current co-sponsors are The Student Conservation Association and Outward Bound USA.
